Portugal is a small nation that punches above its weight in the vinous arena. When you consider the share of territory it devotes to the vine, the dizzying array of native grapes it grows and wine styles it makes, and its illustrious wine history coupled with exciting quality potential, Portugal is (pound-for-pound) the true champion. Join us for an exciting foray into some of Portugal’s best regions and producers along with some insights from Oliver’s recent visit to the enchanting vineyard areas near Lisbon. More details on the wines to be tasted will be posted closer to the class date.
A native New Yorker, Oliver Longwell caught the wine bug in 2012 after a number of years working in government and politics. He has worked for leading wine retailers in New York and Los Angeles, with a particular focus on organically-farmed and natural wines. Oliver is a Certified Sommelier by the Court of Master Sommeliers and works as a freelance wine consultant. He enjoys experimenting with fermentations, especially ciders. He and his wife moved to Northeast Portland in 2021, welcomed their first daughter in 2022 and their second daughter in 2024.
