Magic Uncorked (Monday, June 1st, 6-9pm), $30
Our quarterly magic show has officially become a thing, with every single show having sold out! We’re delighted to host new and returning magicians for an evening of wonder and joy. You’ll enjoy walkaround and close-up magic in the bar for an hour and a half before heading into the Vinum Lounge for a seated show of parlor magic. Here is some information about the magicians:
REV DR. DAVE GREGORY
Co-owner of Ora et Labora, Dave is a fake minister (ordained in the Church of the Latter Day Dude) and a fake doctor (of curriculum and instruction), and he is most certainly not a professional magician. While he was the youngest member of the Parent Assembly of the Society of American Magicians founded by Houdini in New York City at the turn of the 20th century, and did attend magic camp for years, he can only do like five tricks. Given a multitude of poor decisions and failures, the best he could do was open a wine shop and bar whose real (unstated, because he had to trick his wife) raison d’etre is to host magic shows at which he can do two of those five tricks as MC.
Jonny McDaid, also known as Fiddlin' Jonny, has been obsessed with magic for as long as he can remember. He performed his first professional show at the age of 11 and has never looked back. His goal is to delight and inspire his audience, encouraging them to tackle the challenges in their own lives that may seem insurmountable.
As for his nickname, "Fiddlin' Jonny," it comes from his passion for playing the fiddle, which he started at the age of 8. He has combined his love for magic and music on his YouTube channel, where each video begins with him playing a fiddle tune. In addition to performing, he reviews new magic products on the channel, helping fellow magicians determine whether these effects fit their unique styles of magic.
JOHN STEVENS
John Stevens is a magician and mentalist who goes beyond illusion and weaves them into stories. With a unique blend of mystery, psychology, and theatrical flair, John invites audiences into a world where the impossible becomes a mirror, reflecting the wonder, emotions, and connections we all share.
His performances aren’t just about tricks; they’re about truths—those found in laughter, surprise, and the moments when we all feel part of something bigger. Whether on stage or in an intimate setting, John uses magic as a language to remind us that, at our core, we are more alike than different.
A storyteller at heart and a mind-reader and magician by craft, John doesn’t just entertain—he shows how we all are connected.
T.E. MARTIN
For more than five decades, T. E. Martin has captivated audiences with an extraordinary blend of sleight-of-hand magic, psychological illusion, and mind-bending mentalism. Ted’s journey began at age seven during a visit to the legendary Hollywood Magic Shop in Los Angeles. By fifteen he was mentored by the famed magician Joe Berg at Berg’s Magic Studio on Hollywood Boulevard. By the mid-1970s he was performing professionally and soon became a performing member of the world-renowned Magic Castle in Hollywood, where he developed friendships with legendary magicians including Dai Vernon, Johnny Thompson, and Mark Wilson. Ted later opened his own magic shop, The House of Magic, and has performed at venues including The MGM Grand in Reno and Las Vegas, the iconic Magic Island in Newport Beach, and theaters, comedy clubs, and college campuses across the country. Now based in the Portland area, Ted performs his unique blend of close-up magic and mentalism while also mentoring aspiring magicians and developing original magic effects.
